Many of you who knew me back when I was a teen knew that my sweet cousin Rose came to live with us for several years while her parents dealt with their demons. She became a second sister to me.
Today, she called me with the most devastating news that any person can have – her darling husband Michael suffered a massive heart attack two nights ago. She performed chest compressions while her 19 year old son called 911, but unfortunately Michael didn’t make it. He was only 49.
While my cousin Rose and her husband Michael had some health struggles and were on disability, they did not have life insurance (and couldn’t have afforded it on disability very easily). Social Security only has a $250 death benefit, which doesn’t even cover a basic funeral let alone the cremation.
Rose is understandably devastated, and on top of the grief is trying to find a way to cover $1600 for a cremation, plus have some extra for a small family and friends gathering and to purchase some urn necklaces for herself and her son and some of his family members.
Rose and Michael were together for 21 years and had a deeply loving marriage, and I don’t want her to suffer additional financial trauma on top of losing her beloved husband. If you are able to help, even a little, it would be really appreciated.
If you would prefer, you can make a direct donation to the funeral home to go toward the cremation:
White Sanders Funeral Home
717 1st. Street P.O. Box 596
Fisk, Missouri 63940

When a friends and family get together has been scheduled, we can post an update. Please do not send flowers, as the service will be held at a private location and not at the funeral home.
Thank you.
