On the early morning of May 26th, my mom passed away unexpectedly. A phone call I was not ready for. After my father passed away in 2020, my mom’s health declined rapidly due to never really being able to process and understand how to grieve losing her husband. Due to developing dementia on top of already having mental health issues, she had to begin 24-hour care. Throughout the last 1-2 years, due to the dementia and other medical issues, we were in and out of 5-6 different facilities trying to find the right environment for her to thrive in. In March, she spent 56 days in a Pittsburgh hospital due to facilities not wanting to take her on. Finally, with me not having any control, she was moved to a facility near Scranton, PA, 4 hours from me. After yet another short stay, she was admitted to a local hospital there for another 53 days. By God’s grace and prayers, a facility was located near Pittsburgh just 2 short weeks ago. And then unexpectedly, she passed away. My mom doesn’t have life insurance (due to her medical history) and no type of assets or estates that could prepare for the process of laying her to rest.
