Fellow official Roy Childs of Red Rock was tragically killed in a car accident in the early morning hours of May 31, 2025. Roy was a coach, official, but more importantly a father and husband. Roy had been a high school basketball official for 4 years as well as beginning to umpire softball and baseball this past year. He had one goal and that was to get better. He was like a sponge when it came to officiating. Soaking up any and all knowledge he could with the goal of eventually making a state tournament. When he wasn’t busy officiating, he spent his time coaching travel softball and basketball teams involving his children, and was a big part of Ponca City Kid, Inc youth baseball and softball leagues.
Roy leaves behind his wife Ana (married last October) and 4 children. This fundraiser is being set up by the Northern Oklahoma Officials Association, which Roy was a member of, in hopes of raising money to assist Ana and their children with any expenses they need during this difficult time. Information regarding Roy’s memorial service will be posted when it becomes available.
