My father passed away suddenly on May 17, 2025. This loss is devastating on so many levels, as he was a beloved Dad, Papa, brother, and friend. He loved his family and his goal before his death was to move up to South Carolina to be closer to myself and my kids, and his sisters who only live a few hours from me.
Since his death was so unexpected, he did not have life insurance or any funds set aside for his death (cremation, burial, etc)
As his only child, responsibility for him and his estate fall to me. I live in South Carolina, and it will take me a minimum of two more trips to go to Florida to pack and clean his house, and get it ready to sell. These costs include gas, lodging/food, and any additional costs that are needed at the house when I’m there.
Additionally, I need to keep his utilities going until the house is sold, which are running about $600/ month (electric, water, and internet- for the security system ) and pay the balance on his homeowners insurance which is almost $2000.
When my stepmother passed away 5 months ago, my father lost 2/3 of his income and he didn’t have much. Unfortunately, the little bit that he did have in his account is frozen for the time being, and I am having to pay all costs associated with this out-of-pocket, which is starting to put a strain on me financially . In addition to the financial strain, I am more than likely going to have to take several unpaid days off, as I simply do not have enough time to cover my absences.
I am not usually one to ask for handouts, but if you would like to donate, I would be incredibly grateful. I can pay anyone and everyone back once the house is sold.
Thank you.
